Damian’s POV
The world behind the demon lines was more horrific than I expected. The smell dominating behind them was so strong. It’s not just the smell of the blood or smoke. It’s rot like something spoiled that refuses to die. Every breath burns my throat. Every sound was ringing loudly in my ears. I move anyway, because stopping means dying and dying means failing.
Five of us. That’s all that made it this far. At least that volunteered to be here
Jax is on my left, his big shoulders hunched, he was breathing too loud. He gave me a quick look, I could see he was nervous but we are here regardless. Tarin crouches low ahead of us, already scanning everywhere , always three steps forward in his head. Behind me, Lorne and Mikkel stay close, close enough that I can feel their heat at my back.
