His words were barely audible, spoken in that detached manner that reminded me of our first encounter, when he would only utter curt, unsympathetic phrases.
A tingling sensation ran from head to toe. I blushed.
“You were jealous,” I said, smiling involuntarily.
His expression made me laugh, as if he had shed the armor of severity that shielded him, just for me. Only I could see this vulnerability that seemed to exist for no one else.
