Tachje whisked away the first four groups with such astonishing speed that I felt a swell of pride for choosing him to be my champion. My claim to the throne was backed by a creature I now admired deeply.
“You’re surprised,” Dove said, taking my hand. We would be the last to go.
“Yes, I am.” I looked at my wife, my eyes shining. All this magic around us was overwhelming. She was so real, her beauty, everything about her grounded me.
“I’ve had strange dreams about the city shining,” Dove rested her head on my shoulder as we waited.
We had to wait here until all the groups were ready. She wasn’t feeling well, and I wanted to stop her from coming to war. But denying my wife that was no longer my prerogative; I would never allow it. Something deep within me told me we had to go together.
“It’s a mysterious place. I’ve always been curious about that city too,” I whispered, kissing her lips.
