Carmen had me by the arm, trembling as she recounted the whole story to me. She didn’t expect to go on such a risky expedition, but I wasn’t going to lie to her.

“If you try to betray us, you will die,” threatened Lion, his patience wearing thin, which worried me.

Jason walked beside me as we arrived at Clarisa’s neighborhood, looking for any clues.

“I’ll go talk to her house; whoever wants to can come with me,” I said, my legs weak with nerves.

“I’ll go with you,” Jason added, his voice subdued, showing how sad he was about Clarisa’s sudden disappearance.

“Then I need you to go look for clues with the neighbor next door,” I told Lion. “Carmen will stay with me.”

Lion agreed, and separating was a good alternative to the complicated situation. I didn’t know where to begin the search; the steps to follow weren’t well laid out, and every minute counted; Clarisa’s life was at stake.
