Debby lowered her eyes to her hands, looking at her palms and then her back, as if she wanted to remember every time having burned and appreciated her intuition. Rob thought of saying that if she lived in a convent, she would probably have carried candles at some point in her life. However, he had no longer understood at all in that story, because Debby had nothing of the modesty and natural shyness that is expected of women grown up in an environment only of other rigid and believing women. Debby was more like an ordinary woman who took a few sabbatical years and returned without having the slightest idea of how the world was devastated by the humans who remained in it. Rob could almost say that he considered Debby from another planet, and not from a convent.
