Chapter 26. Leaving Everything Behind
“Did you bring it?”
Eva started to scream, but a gloved hand covered her mouth.
“Shhh… It’s only me,” the voice replied gently, taking the hand off of her.
She saw that Patrick was already there with their horses. She climbed onto one and followed her brother-in-law into the darkness. In the distance, a blue light lit up the sky; no one saw it except the creature Eva left behind.
She had the perfect plan, one which she had perfected over the past few weeks. Soon, she was on a bus to the Bayfront, her father’s hometown. She couldn’t go back to the house her grandfather had left for her because that would be the first place he would search for when he realized she had left.
Edward gave her the keys to his car the last time she was here, and yet Eva didn’t feel right about taking his car with her.
