“Killing my brother doesn’t count, Freya. That son of a bitch deserved it,” Sam replied as he walked away from me and into the penthouse. He slumped down onto the couch as I followed him in. “I’ve killed so many people to protect myself and my secrets. I think that’s why I put up with Kali for so long. I felt like I didn’t deserve anyone better. Then you came along.” He sat forward and rested his head in his hands. “I thought I could be a better man for you, Freya. It turns out, once a murderer, always a murderer.”

I sat down beside him and replied,

“I wasn’t talking about, Balan.” He sat up and glanced at me. “I killed one of my pack members. His name was Chase, and I ripped him apart, for no reason.”

“What? He must have done something…”

“Yeah. He questioned my orders,” I replied with a sigh.

In light of Sam’s mood, I didn’t see the point in adding the excuse of being insane at the time. I knew I was going through withdrawals from Azae
