Auraya had a reputation for maintaining her composure in the heat of battle. Since she assumed leadership of the Radiant Circle, every encounter she’d had with a werewolf—thus far nothing more than feral beasts devoid of true intelligence—had proved her point. These creatures were omegas or members of minor packs, lacking coordination or cunning. Still, Auraya’s victories were never the result of underestimating her foes; she trained relentlessly and fought with unwavering focus.

On this day, however, Baze’s irreverent attitude and flippant commentary about “how the story should go” tested her patience like nothing else. She loved tales of heroes overcoming insurmountable odds—but this was no mere story. Her beloved city lay in ruins because of these monsters, and now this man had the gall to cast her as the villain?
