Auraya and Corvin dashed toward the epicenter of devastation. Around them, the once-verdant forest lay in ruins: splintered tree trunks, smoldering stumps, and fissures cracking open the earth like gaping wounds.
Auraya skidded to a halt, her instincts screaming that something unspeakably vile had occurred here. She sucked in a breath, then sprinted onward again with Corvin right on her heels. Together they tackled the steep slope of what looked like an artificial cliff—a jagged wall of earth heaved upward as if by some monstrous hand. The climb was brutal, every foothold crumbling beneath their weight, but Auraya refused to slow.
“What kind of monster could wreak all this havoc?” Corvin panted, his voice edged with disbelief.
Auraya ground her teeth. “Whatever did this… it’s nothing good. We need to find Papa now. Ever since I defeated Baze, I’ve felt this dread—like something terrible is coming.” Her words trembled on the edge of fear,
