I drove my blade into Zephyr’s skull, piercing the bone and sinking into the soft tissue of his brain. The moment my sword broke through his hard cranium, he convulsed violently, as though seized by a shock of agony. Whether this reaction sprang from his unusual powers or some other unforeseen cause, I could not say. All I knew was that, as I stared into his lifeless, dilated pupils, an unexpected vision flooded my mind.
