Byron had long since abandoned the field of weapons testing and applied himself instead to biological experimentation. Ever since he’d joined the Dreadmaw pack and awakened his magical gifts, something inside him had warped. He began to use the bodies of his victims—whether fellow werewolves or even humans—like little puzzles, cutting them open, reassembling them, trying to unlock some hidden secret. No one could say what his goal was or what dark designs he pursued.
As Byron’s fatherly discipline faded into memory, Zephyr’s hand still clutched his head in pain. Even at twenty, he obeyed Byron’s commands without question.
Byron cuffed Zephyr gently on the shoulder. “Go rest, boy. You’re no use to the Dreadmaw pack if you’re still injured.” With that, he strode back to his throne, his bandaged face expressionless. Draven laughed at Zephyr’s weakness, and Kareth simply regarded the scene with a cold smile.
