Celeste’s POV
I stood my ground and concentrated on summoning a small fireball in my throat. My heart hammered against my ribs, and a faint tremor of fear ran down my spine—I had absolutely no idea how to breathe actual dragon fire. All I knew was what I’d observed when that lizard-like dragon we’d faced tore through the Stormclaw wolf pack, and the half-remembered legends I’d heard about dragons and their fiery breath. I clung to the hope that those scraps of observation and folklore would be enough.
Kaien had said it himself: imagination is key. If I could imagine the attack clearly in my mind, then my body would follow. But if I botched it, I risked ending up with a scarred throat—much like Nyra’s water fissure had wounded her—and I was desperate to avoid that kind of permanent damage. Just picturing Eryndor’s stunned reaction to Nyra’s injury gave me goosebumps. I didn’t want to be on the receiving end of shock and concern again.
