Over the years, Rael had gradually lost the only sight he had left. But not completely. He could still see figures. The years had been cruel to him. As he got older, he seemed to age five years every year. He never regretted having taken his own sight from one of his eyes, after all, he wouldn't have wanted to see his appearance, which he knew and felt must be pitiful.
In a futile gesture of revenge, he called Nereu, his grandson, who was now a boy, and led him to the dungeons. Rael got around on a chair carried by his servants, as his legs had weakened and he had difficulty standing. He took Nereus with him to show him where the traitors were kept and, unbeknown to the boy, his own father, Korar, whom Rael, even though he had difficulty getting out of bed, never tired of tormenting.
