Chapter 136. The Decay of an Alpha

(Three months after the funeral...)

Freya was tending to her vegetable garden when she saw Luc come out of Mehoffer's small hut, which, after a quick visit, they discovered had only six rooms, and walk towards her. She smiled happily at him. She loved Luc, perhaps even more now that he had been honest with her. His words caused her pain at first, but then they became liberating. She no longer had to worry about being her best self for him. She could be and do everything her own way, because he didn't have any expectations of her. She felt light, as if a great burden had been lifted from her shoulders.

Her smile died when he smiled back for a few seconds and then suddenly fell.
