The whole way, Giovana kept convincing the man who worked for Luc that he needed to speed up. She talked about his accident, but the man, after looking at her in surprise, didn't show any concern and continued driving at the appropriate speed.
Giovanna didn't want to think. But she knew that if Luc died, part of her, a very large part, would die with him. She knew that she would never smile or taste life again. But she didn't want to think about the dormant feelings that had surfaced. He didn't want to think about what they were insistently telling him. They were unleashing a storm of repressed feelings. She tried to push them away, but they were stronger than her, stronger than her coldness and indifference. She finally entered the hospital panting, with fear in her eyes.
