I sank on the floor, leaning on the wall beside my bedroom door, my mind in a frozen state. There were no tears, no racing heartbeat, boiling feeling inside or burning chest – just some paused thoughts, stuck on my supposed aunt. For minutes I sat there, trying to let my mind function, but nothing was working.
When a knock came through, I didn't move, nor did I respond. Words had totally escaped me, leaving me momentarily dumb. Despite my lack of response, the door was pushed open.
