Chapter 54. Walking on Eggshells
Carl formally bowed his head then he turned around to walk to the car he brought with him today. He wanted to hide the sadness in his face so he avoided looking at Marie after expressing his words of gratitude with his employer's name.
Denny did not tell him to say those words, but Carl did not know what to say when he saw the formality on Marie's face. It felt like his fears of her thoughts about him turned out to be none of what he was thinking earlier.
She didn't blush and she wasn't mad. She was annoyed at him, her voice and expressions turned too formal, so he blurted out without so much thinking. He got into the car and he just looked up to check on Marie when Carl was sure she would no longer see his face inside the heavily tinted car he was sitting in.
