Chapter 7

The road to the place where the children were guaranteed safety turned out to be long and took several hours. Alistair and Mike fell asleep almost as soon as they left town. The bus, surprisingly, was almost empty. In addition to the driver, only one granny was traveling with them, but she got off the bus sometime in the middle of their trip.

And then - a phone call. Al opened his eyes in fear that it was his mother calling ... Or May, which would be even worse.

“Unknown number” - the caller ID read.

A memory flashed through the guy’s head how he was awakened by the same call he decided not to take and eventually forgot about it. Alistair swiped up, accepting the call, and brought the phone to his ear.

“Alistair? Oh my god, it's good that you finally picked up the phone..” A female voice ranted. She was talking anxiously, but you could hear a sigh of relief right after Al picked up the phone.

“Um... Who is that?” The guy asked.
