Chapter 33. Phone

“Dad!”

I was about to follow him, but suddenly, Mom went in front of me, not letting me take another step.

“I’ve been tolerating you for a while now, Serenity. And this is how you keep crossing the line? After all of the things we’ve done for you?” Mom asked, and I could hear the anger in her tone.

That’s the anger she was trying to conceal earlier and convert into sadness, and all of it is because she’s trying to control me and trigger the guilt I had.

And for a moment, she became successful in that aspect.

But not anymore.

“I need to follow him,” I said, my tone firm. “Why are you dragging River into this, Mom? He’s not involved in this. As you said, River is not a part of our family!”

“Yes. He’s not. And I clearly remember that because I’m not as stupid as you’re trying to make me, but he’s polluting your mind. See how you’re talking back to me?!”

“I’m not talking back, Mom. I’m just trying to reason out this situation.”
