I found Abby upstairs with her back against the wall beside her bedroom door.

Her face was red.

Her eyes were worse.

“Abs?”

She wiped at her cheeks too quickly.

“What happened?”

“Nothing.”

I stepped closer.

She moved away.

That stopped me.

“Abby.”

“I said I’m fine.”

“You’re crying.”

“I’m aware.”

“What did Kade do?”

Her expression changed.

Answer enough.
