Chapter 60. A Little Favor
The crystal clinked softly as Maurizio swirled his drink, amber catching the late light that filtered through the tall windows. He sat behind his desk, expression unreadable, while two of his men stood rigidly before him—heads bowed, voices measured.
“…we’ve tracked several of his properties, signore. The villa outside Milan shows some movement again. A few men, maybe three or four. Nothing significant, but it’s being watched.”
Maurizio hummed, uninterested. “And Moroni himself?”
The man hesitated. “He’s been sighted twice in the city, but he moves carefully. Never stays long. Changes cars. Watches his back.”
Maurizio’s lips twitched into something that might have been a smile. “Of course he does. He’s not a fool.”
He took a slow sip of his drink, eyes half-lidded with amusement. “This boy’s good. Always was. But hiding is just fear with a fancy name. And fear,” he said, setting the glass down with a soft click, “always runs out of patience.”
