Ezio and Dario settled in the study, the low lamplight throwing gold across the desk.
Dario sprawled into the chair opposite, tapping his fingers against the armrest.
“So,” Dario started, tone casual. “Sorry about earlier. I was out of line.”
Ezio glanced up from the papers on his desk. “Apology accepted.”
Dario smirked. “I wasn’t wrong, though.”
Ezio arched a brow. “About what?”
“That you’re falling.”
Ezio groaned, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Is it that obvious?”
“Oh, yeah,” Dario said, grinning. “Like a teenager. Or a caveman ready to tear apart anyone who even glances at his woman.”
Ezio gave him a dark look. “Careful.”
Dario laughed. “What? You gonna put her in a full-body sack to keep the world from seeing her? You’re territorial as fuck, man. Does she even like you?”
Ezio sighed, leaning back in his chair. “Maybe. Maybe not. I hope she does.”
Dario whistled. “You’re fucked up.”
