Chapter 55. Suspicion
Calla paced around her room, her hands trembling and her lower lip caught between her teeth. She was back home, but sleep refused to come. The clock had long passed 1am, yet she couldn’t calm down or even sit still.
Something felt off.
She couldn’t shake the feeling that Rico had found out about the tracker and about everything.
Her stomach twisted. Maybe she was overthinking it or perhaps it was just guilt playing tricks on her again. Still, her mind wouldn’t rest.
She sat on the edge of the bed, her fingers clutching the sheets as her thoughts ran wild.
The thought made her chest tighten. She turned to look at her brother, who begged to sleep in her room tonight, sleeping soundly, his small hand curled near his face. He had no idea the danger they were both in.
The burner phone buzzed in the drawer of the nightstand, cutting through the silence. Her heart jumped as she reached for it. The screen flashed with a single message from the phone.
