Cutting Bond

During the course of our conversation regarding the project, Vera’s phone began to ring for no apparent reason. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone, then immediately turned her attention to Kianna.

“Go! Answer it.” Kianna said, smiling.

Vera nodded and stood up, but as she was walking away, her phone was facing Kianna’s direction, so Kianna could see who was calling Vera. This allowed Kianna to answer Vera’s call. Indeed, it was Asteria all along!

The question is, why is she calling her? Kianna wondered.

Vera walked out of the room to answer the phone call that was coming in. Kianna had the urge to follow her and inquire as to the nature of the conversation that was taking place between her and Asteria, but she restrained herself and instead took a few deep breaths.
