Lily frowned and put her legs back down on the couch, the leather creaking faintly under her movement. “Shit, really?” Her brow furrowed, and she tilted her head slightly as if trying to reconcile the words with the reality she was picturing.
“Yep.” Mike rubbed his eyes with the palms of his hands, the motion slow and deliberate, as though the tiredness in his body could be banished with a simple gesture. “Apparently there’s something nasty on the other side of the gate that I might have to deal with. After that, it sounds like I just need to roam around Purgatory—or whatever it’s officially called—for a bit until I can find the portal that leads to faerie land.” He leaned back against the bookshelf behind him, the weight of the leather-bound tomes pressing into his shoulder blades.
