Book Four: Chapter 125
The doll shook her head, tiny hands curling slightly around the edges of the miniature chair she sat in. Her painted eyes seemed to glimmer in the sunlight that spilled through the window, catching the dust motes in the air.
“I’m glad I’ve got one person who believes in me,” Mike said softly, reaching down to pat her head. His fingers lingered for a moment, the warmth contrasting with the cool wooden surface beneath. Then, as if steeling himself, he resumed his studies, the worn pages of his book rustling under his fingertips. In a couple of hours, he would go check on Tink, making sure she hadn’t gotten herself into trouble, and then this afternoon was supposed to be his turn with Quetzalli.
He rubbed his wrist, wincing slightly as the memory came back. A couple of days prior, she had accidentally zapped him with a nasty shock while he was teaching her to throw a ball. She’d been so focused
