Chapter 18. Heated Moments

The day’s work was done, and Carmella started packing up. 

“Come, I’ll drop you off,” said Jaxon, coming out of his office with a smile on his face. Carmella noticed the excitement in his tone as his eyes shone with happiness. It was so different from the image she had encountered when she first met him. Was it all because of her? It was too good to believe. She followed him to the elevators after waving at Phil, who was also wrapping up his work for the day. Jaxon led her to the parking lot and to his car. 

“Where’s Joe?” she asked him. 

“I’ve sent him home. He’s already been here since six in the morning. I came to my office early to cope with the pending work,” he informed her. 

“Oh, you must be exhausted,” she said as he steered the car out of the parking lot. Carmella noticed he drove in the direction opposite to where her apartment was.
