Jackson's POV
I paced around my compound while talking on the phone. Tim played with his pet near the carport as Max busied himself cleaning the cars.
"Please, keep an eye on her door in particular and get back to me if you notice anything suspicious. Remember, you’ll be handsomely rewarded if you do a good job," I said firmly and ended the call.
Sliding the phone into my pocket, I noticed my fingers were trembling. I raised my hand for a closer look. My fingers were dancing, shaking in fear.
I was scared. For the first time in my life, that's how I felt.
What if she did something reckless? Why hadn't I thought it through before yelling at her and abandoning her like that? She could write a suicide note and...
No! I shook my head, chasing the thoughts away. Vera wouldn't go that far. She had too much to live for. And I was willing to show her everything she was missing, if only she'd give me another chance.
