Vera's POV

I watched Jack as he rushed toward his car, clearly panicking. I knew exactly what he was thinking, that I had disappeared again. So I played a little prank. I opened and shut the bedroom door loudly, just enough to get his attention.

A few seconds later, I heard him racing back inside the house and thundering up the stairs. I stood in the middle of the bedroom, dripping wet from the shower and laughing softly.

He stormed into the room and ran straight to me, wrapping his arms around me tightly as though he thought I’d vanish again.

“Fûck! Vera, don’t ever do this again,” he swore, kissing me passionately despite my wet body soaking his clothes.

“Easy, babe!” I said, breaking the kiss with a laugh. “I was just messing with you. I was in the shower when I heard you drive in. I decided to stay quiet and see what you'd do. You didn’t even think to check the bathroom?”
