Chapter 32
She opened her mouth two or three times as if to speak, stretching out her arms imploringly, but not a word came, and fell back into the arms of her nearest kin as Nathan pushed himself forward into the witness box:
"Your Honor, you have mothers, and it is a cruel disgrace to do this to a mother. It was my son, my only child, who asked us to open the door, and who cried for his mother's throat if she would not stop her clamor when she cried for her niece to help, and now You have the truth and I will leave it to God to judge how you got it."
Before the night was over the mother was paralyzed, and lay on her death bed, but they were brokenhearted and then they returned home so that the Lord would give them rest.
