“King Andri has refused my latest meeting request,” Kieran says.

Taner groans. Finn rolls his eyes. Ingrid cracks her knuckles and glares at the portrait of the king that hangs over the small sitting room they’ve been granted to use for their meetings.

I scratch a line through the bottom entry on our list of potential options, Run into him on the way somewhere else and try to get a commitment while he’s not paying much attention.

“Did he refuse it, or did you not actually run into him?” Finn asks.

Kieran grits his teeth. “I didn’t run into him long enough to have a conversation.”

“That weasel.” Ingrid shakes her head. “I bet he ran away from you on purpose.”

“He had the grace not to actually run, at least.”
