Book 4: Realization

Morning comes faster than I expect. Last night, it was… I don’t have the words to describe it. I thought it would last forever, away from sunlight and anybody else’s opinions. A hangover clusters at my temples, informing me the Haze’s effects only chase those off if you spend it alone. Memories of last night only exist in flashes, but I’d still rather have those than no headache.
The scent of clove and aniseed still hangs heavy in the air. Her. My mate. Months of avoiding the Haze, resenting it, feeling stupid in the wake of her come to mind. Something rustles, and I open my eyes.
She bends elegantly over, displaying an ass I know I’m going to dream about, even if I can barely remember it from last night. Disappointingly, she’s already dressed, so I have to imagine the ass without the interfering pants. Her arms move quickly, sharply as she laces up a pair of boots. The clothes usually left in the tents for the Haze hang loosely on her frame,
