Chapter 111. Fallen off the Mountain

Elena’s POV

The tires screamed as the car shot forward, skimming past the cliff with barely any space to spare. My heart slammed so hard it hurt. I grabbed the back of Nova’s seat, panic ripping through me.

“Oh God, what do we do?!”

Nova didn’t look at me. Both hands were locked on the steering wheel, her grip so tight her fingers had gone pale. Sweat shone on her forehead. “It’s not slowing,” she said through clenched teeth. “But listen to me, Elena. Alpha Eric trusted you to me. I won’t let you die.”

My stomach dropped when I glanced at the dashboard. The speed was climbing. Fast. Way too fast. The road ahead was hell; sharp turns stacked one after another, nothing but darkness and steep drops on either side. Night had swallowed the mountain, and without brakes, this wasn’t a drive anymore. It was a countdown.

At this speed, on this road, crashing wasn’t a possibility.

It was a promise.
