Chapter 2
While driving, I took several deep breaths and let out a huge sigh as I managed to flee from my guards. After he arranged my marriage to a stranger, he assigned several people to watch over me.
I was a prisoner in my own home, and I didn’t want to keep it that way…forever! So I decided to leave for good. I felt terrible for misleading Aunt Jenny and some of the guards, but I had no choice.
I wanted the freedom to travel and experience the outside world, which had been out of reach for me for a period of time. Being aware that it was a dangerous road, I was driving slowly while traveling down the winding path.
I was in a hurry and bothered simultaneously, so witnessing a truck losing its control terrified me. As the truck made contact with the asphalt, I let out a frightened cry and began to tremble violently.
After seeing the twisted wreckage of the truck, my hands began to shake with fear, and it took me a while to realize that someone was in dire need of help and that I was the only person in the area.
For a moment, I contemplated my decision whether to slow down and stop to provide some assistance, but I was nervous that my father’s men would soon catch up with me. I was supposed to ignore it, but I couldn’t!
I parked on the side of the road, and as soon as I got out of my car, I sprinted to the severely damaged vehicle.
Unfortunately, no one was in the vehicle when I arrived, so I had to leave. Was that remote-controlled or something else? I didn't believe it was possible, and when I finally had the courage to act as a hero, I attempted to keep my shriek under wraps when I spotted an injured person concealed behind a massive boulder. Even though his appearance upset me, I was required to check his pulse and respiration because it was the right thing to do.
“Oh, my God!” I exclaimed when I couldn’t feel his pulse.
I checked for a second time to make sure the guy was actually gone, but once I realized he was no longer alive, I burst into tears. Being alone with a deceased person was a terrible experience in a remote place, and I badly needed someone to come to my rescue!
I had been staring at the corpse for quite some time, and I refused to leave him alone. It was almost dark, so I was worried for my safety, but until someone would come to take his body, I could never leave him alone! It’s just inhumane to do so!
I called 911 for help, but it would take them some time to reach my location. While staring at the lifeless body of a person, I began to doubt if there was a chance that I just missed his pulse!
Maybe he’s alive and in need of resuscitation!
I heaved a deep sigh and reached for the handkerchief that had been stashed in the rear pocket of my pants as I tried to put some distance between us. I took it and used it to wipe the blood off the stranger's face.
My stomach clenched as I looked into the stranger's mouth, and after taking a few steps closer, I was more scared to perform mouth-to-mouth!
Should I do it?
“Hey, can you hear me?” I tried to talk to him, but there was no response. Any minute, it would be dark, so I wished that help would arrive immediately. I knew it was stupid to ask him when he was lying there unconsciously.
I cleaned his face to check the man’s identity using my handkerchief, but it was impossible to clean him thoroughly. He was bleeding badly, and I had to stop some of his wounds by binding them with a cloth from my dress.
I called 911 again, and the woman said that they were on the way. I almost give up on him when I noticed that his fingers moved! It felt like a miracle, and I suddenly went over to him to check.
“Hang on there, sir. Help is coming,” I told him, but the man flinched away when I touch his arm. “I'm not going to hurt you,” I assured him, extending my hands in a motion to show that I wanted to help him.
At that moment, I wished I studied medicine to know how to save his life. I prayed that the rescue team would arrive as soon as possible, so I was glad when I heard that a vehicle was coming.
“Wait for a minute,” I informed the injured man, but he suddenly grabbed my leg, which caused me to shriek before falling into the hard ground. I was trying to get up when a group of men emerged from a black sedan, and they were staring at me.
Suddenly, I realized that everything was a set-up. When I turned around, the injured man was already on his feet and laughing at me for being naïve and ignorant. I was caught in their trap, and whoever they may be, I was positive that they knew about my real identity. They knew that my father was Felix Montes, and he would be ready to pay for ransom money if ever they would ask for it.
“Don’t hurt me,” I begged for my life when their leader walked towards me.
“Why are you alone on the road, Miss?” He inquired.
“Don’t touch me, you bastard!” I screamed and cursed at the man who dared to lay a finger on my skin. He looked insulted but didn’t hurt me. Instead, he glanced at his cronies, and they all laughed together.
“She looks fragile, Boss. Can she last in bed for ten hours? Can she take all of us?”
My eyes widened at the realization that they meant to use me as their whore! No way! “Over my dead body,” I mumbled in between sobs of fear. They just laughed at my statement.
“Stripped her.”
“No!” I screamed as soon as the boss ordered his cronies to strip off my clothes. “You can’t do this to me!”
“Why not?”
“The authorities are coming!” I tried to scare them away, but they only burst out into laughter.
“She called 911,” the supposedly injured man said.
“Smart woman. Alright, boys, let’s take here somewhere else,” he ordered.
“No!” I wiggled my body to get away from them, but they were so strong, and fighting against their strength was futile. I kicked my legs and refused to walk when one of his men suddenly carried me on his shoulders. “Put me down! Put me down, you bastard!”
I screamed as loud as I could, but they were positive that nobody would hear me and continued to ignore my screams. Suddenly, a car was coming fast toward the sedan, and I screamed some more when a red car collided with the black sedan.
“Must be a drunk man, boss.”
“Kill the driver!”
The leader issued his command, and soon the driver was forced out of his car, and one man collared his shirt. I tried to close my eyes and refused to witness the violence before me, but the newcomer put up a fight!
When someone pulled his gun and aimed at the driver, I screamed, but the driver failed to hear me because of the commotion. I decided to help him because if he was going to survive, there was a high chance that he would help me, too.
I picked up a stone and aimed it at the man who pulled a gun!
The driver ran towards me and grabbed my hand. I was surprised at his action, but I was so scared to ask an unimportant question. I let him lead the way, and we ran as fast as we could until we reached my car.
“Hurry up!” He instructed me to get inside the car immediately.
“They’re following us!” I warned him as soon as I saw the bastards running toward us.
“Let’s go now!” He ordered, and I almost fainted in shock when he maneuvered the vehicle.
“Thank you for saving my life, sir.”
“Are you alright?” He inquired.
“I think I am,” I replied in a weak voice.
“You should be careful next time,” he warned me. “Where should I take you from here?”
Maybe it’s because of the extreme shock of almost dying at the hands of those barbarians that I gave him my home address. It was too late when I realized my mistake.
