Chapter 19. Warmth
“Did you just come back from a party? Why didn’t I know about this?”
Emma was slightly surprised by Jackson’s question. She turned to look at him, her eyes shimmering under the car’s interior lights. A brief smile appeared on her lips but quickly faded, replaced by a distant look.
“It was just a meeting, nothing important,” Emma replied softly, trying not to reveal too much about what had really happened. “I didn’t want to bother you, so I didn’t mention it.”
Jackson remained silent, his eyes still focused on the road ahead, but his mind was filled with thoughts about Emma. He knew she wasn’t the type to easily share everything, and more than anyone, he understood the only reason she was still alive.
Revenge.
“I just want you to know that I’m always here. Anytime you need me,” Jackson said, his voice warm and sincere.
