Chapter 24
Alpha Silas
A sharp knock shattered the quiet of the early morning.
Alpha Silas blinked awake, the edges of sleep still clinging to his mind. Pale light spilled through the curtains, casting faint gold streaks across the floor. Beside him, his mate stirred.
Another knock, firmer this time.
He sat up, dragging a hand down his face. “What the hell is it now?”
Sliding from the bed, he reached for his robe and tied it around his waist. The knock came again, more insistent. He opened the door to find two patrol guards waiting, both tense and visibly uncomfortable.
“She’s gone,” one said without preamble. “Olivia. She crossed the eastern border just after midnight. She’s not alone. A human girl is with her.”
Silas frowned. “What do you mean she’s gone?”
“She had a bag. Looked like she packed to leave for good.”
