Chapter 172. Death of the Next in Line
70 YEARS LATER
The night was chilly. The frigid breeze howled through the wide-open window on the fifth floor of a drowsy apartment building in Bailey County. Simon Mann was sound asleep on his black leather couch, exhausted from a long day. He was so drained that he didn’t even have the energy to walk to his bed and collapsed on the couch instead.
Only the street lights remained to help the tired travelers find their way home because the moon had been out for a while. That evening, something didn’t feel quite right about this Texas county. It appeared as though something was scavenging through the shadowy passageways for some defenseless prey.
“I need help! Help me, please!”
Simon’s wooden door is rudely knocked on with full fists, which causes a start. Because of how dark it was in Simon’s flat, he briefly believed he was dreaming.
