Chapter 5
Betty could not help throwing leery gazes at the man that sat next to her as she drove.
“By the way, I’m Peter Goddard, forgive my manners,” Peter said when they drove into town.
“And I’m Emma Philips,” Emma said from the back seat.
“I’m Betty Brooks. Sorry, I didn’t introduce myself earlier either.”
There was a silence for a while and then Emma spoke.
“I should alight around this axis and wait for the cab I’ve ordered. I’ll sit in the coffee shop ahead.”
“Are you going to be safe?” Peter asked and she nodded.
“I’ll just go farther into town, lodge somewhere, maybe,” Peter said.
As much as he hated to admit it, he had been truly worried about Maria and had inwardly prayed for her safety. Knowing that Emma had gotten around to texting her was a relief and he could finally go his way without worry.
Betty dropped Emma off at the coffee shop that was still bustling despite being that it was almost midnight.
