Chapter 33
Avery’s POV
It has been three days since the two-week time frame expired and since I met Gaius’ uncle. I took his advice and went home immediately after he left and till now, no one has bothered me, not even Davis or Inspector Malik.
I guess whatever help Alec was referring to is reflecting already. I don’t have any way of reaching him to find out what he did, and it bothers me because I don’t know where I stand with the police and with the press. I have a half mind to pay Davis a visit to find out more, but I’m hesitant in case the situation isn’t quite resolved yet, and I find myself walking into a trap.
My phone rings on the bedside table and I lay in bed staring up at the ceiling and contemplating whether or not to answer. Chances are that it’s my mom, and I reluctantly roll over to reach for it. Without looking at the number, I pick up the call.
