Emiliana's apartment key was in the planter in front of the door, just as she said. I inserted it into the lock, turned it inward to open, and once inside, I began carefully placing my boxes.
It had taken a lot of convincing to get Emiliana not to help me with the move. I argued that I could do it perfectly well alone and that there was no need for her to interrupt her daily activities because of me. That was the excuse I gave her, although the truth was entirely different. I still didn't feel brave enough to tell her that we should stop seeing each other; I didn't want to see the look of disappointment on her face. She probably thinks I'm just playing with her, and I felt capable of enduring that in this stage of my life. I knew it would be an inevitable situation I had to face sooner rather than later.
