Chapter 232. The Unwelcome Knock
Shehrzaad unfolded her eyelashes, feeling groggy. Rubbing her eyes, she sat up before adjusting the quilt over her daughter, who was snoring softly with parted lips. Smiling softly, Shehrzaad pecked her cheek, which resembled a ripe apple, before she left the bed. After freshening up, she exited the room. Her chest felt heavy today. She couldn't shake the feeling of dread. Lost in her thoughts, she didn't realize when Rasheeda exited the tiny kitchen.
"Good morning, daughter," Rasheeda greeted, placing a jug of milk on the mahogany wooden table. Shehrzaad looked up and smiled. "Good morning." She began helping her carry utensils to the table. "You should have woken me up," Shehrzaad bit her lip in guilt. The regret of making Rasheeda cook for her would twist her gut, but she was helpless. Rasheeda wouldn't let her enter the kitchen.
