Chapter 127. Good or Bad News

Leila’s POV

The morning sun was burning bright through the kitchen windows into a golden hue across the room. I stood by the counter waiting for the coffee to finish brewing when the too-familiar voice called out.

“Leila!”

I turned, “Michael?”

Dominic’s hand lay on the back of Michael’s shoulder, “Thought he might be a nice company for the summer.”

“Oh my god, this is the best surprise!” I exclaimed, bending to tug Michael in for a hug. His little arms went tight around me and I laughed as I pressed a kiss to the top of his head.

Michael leaned back, “Dominic picked me up from school! I got to ride in a super cool car!”

I looked up at Dominic, my eyes welled with appreciation. “Thank you,” I mouthed.

He just shrugged, “Figured you could use some family time.” His gaze softened. “And I could use a little peace at work, knowing you have someone around who keeps you smiling.”
