"Still no word from Kieran?"
Leilah responses. "No."
My patience snaps.
I pull my phone out, punch his name in, and call.

“Hey,” Kieran answers, slightly breathless.
“Did you go to another universe to get that box or what?” I growl.
He curses under his breath. “Shit. I forgot to text you. I was about to head there, I swear, but then the guards at the café called me.”
My jaw tightens. “Why?”
“They said a local might’ve seen someone hanging around. Some guy parked across the street for too long yesterday. Apparently the same car was spotted twice last week, too. No plate, but the description’s vague as hell. Thought it was worth checking out.”
