Chapter 8. Spill the Bean
Adeline’s POV
The moment the words left my mouth, the world around me seemed to stop. Everybody suddenly stopped what they were doing and all eyes were on me that minute.
Everywhere was quiet. And I wouldn’t lie, it scared me.
I stood there, frozen, my breath coming in very fast and sharp.
I could literally hear my own pulse. That was how anxious I was. The only thing that filled my ears were the fast pounding of my heart.
I didn’t dare lift my head. I kept my gaze fixed on the floor, my fingers twisting together as I waited—for a reaction, for something, for anything.
Then, my father’s voice broke through the silence like I expected.
“What… What are you talking about?”
His voice was sharp as always and he looked very surprised, like he couldn’t trust his own ears.
For the first time since I walked into the room, he actually looked at me. He finally noticed me.
I gulped hard and cleared my throat. “The wedding—”
