Two days later...

I opened my eyes and sat up in bed, stretching my taut muscles as my eyes adjusted to the sudden brightness of the world. The sunlight streamed through the curtains, casting a warm glow over the room. I groaned as a slight discomfort in my arm reminded me of the cast I was still wearing. My injuries were healing nicely, though the dull ache lingered, a constant reminder of the recent accident. Despite the doctor’s concerns about potential complications, I felt perfectly fine. He was a human doctor, after all—he couldn’t possibly understand the accelerated healing of our kind.
