The mahogany coffin sat before me like an accusation, its polished surface catching the dull light filtering through the clouds overhead.
I couldn’t tear my eyes away from itthis wooden box that now contained someone I’d promised to help.
The mournful voices of grieving relatives filled the cemetery, their sobs rising and falling like a tide, and my mind went numb.
“This isn’t right,” My wolf Keal growled inside me. “This feels wrong. All of it.”
I couldn’t disagree.
Just a week ago, Mielle had been alivesmiling at me, thanking me for helping her.
Now she was gone, sealed inside that wooden box, and my brain couldn’t process it.
