Chapter 13

Mona stared out the window, watching the clouds transform into a grey color to usher in the evening. Her heart felt heavy as tears laced her eyes. Since she wrote the letters and had pleaded with Sansan to ensure they got to her parents as fast as the messenger could. Her hope had dimmed with every passing minute when there was no return letter or her parents in sight.

Thoughts of how she might end up miserable if not led to death by the cruel Alpha made her shiver. Wrapping her arms tightly around herself, Mona tried to hold back the tears that threatened to fall. She refused to appear weak and wouldn’t want to be seen as one. What she needed to do was think of a way out, just in case her parent wouldn’t be able to help out.

It scared her that the assertions of her parents not being able to help out might turn out true. Walking back to the bed in dejection, she sat on its edge, finally letting the tears fall freely. It felt like a prison since she got saved from the dar
