Dylan didn’t realize how much he had missed Diane until she ran into his arms. Her tears almost tempted him to join in. But it was unheard of for an Alpha to cry. Wrapping his arm tightly around her, a part of him felt at peace. He wondered what his fate would be if Diane had ended up with Douglas. Shaking the awful and never happening thought off, he basked in the moment.

“My goodness! You look so old. What have you been doing?” Diane questioned, scrutinizing his body. Her eyes scanned the entire field. “Have you been training all day?”

He nodded like a child with a bright smile. “You know my extreme best is needed.”

“Why won’t you let Ralph’s men fight with you?”

“It’s not in my jurisdiction, Diane. I can’t bring in the northern pack warriors to the southern pack. It’s not allowed.”

“That is so unfair,” she wailed, leaning into him.

“Did you come alone? Where is Damien?” he asked eagerly.

“I couldn’t bring him for safety reasons. Ralph ins
