Chapter 43. Racing: pt. 2
The sort of rage, fear, and protectiveness Wayne had just experienced was entirely new to him. He could barely handle it and struggled to stay calm. It felt as if his heart had been shattered into a million little pieces and scattered over a hard surface, bouncing all around.
He had just watched his mate almost die right in front of him. What if she weren’t a werewolf, but rather some fragile creature that couldn’t withstand what she had just gone through? What if she were human? She could have died right before his eyes. At the thought of this, he pinned her even closer to his furry body and buried his snout into her neck.
“Wayne,” she called again, but his racing heart wouldn’t let him release her. He had to make sure she was truly alive in his arms by listening to her steady heartbeat over and over.
“Wayne, I’m fine. Really,” Olive tried to convince him.
