Chapter 87. The Weight of Scorn

Anastasia's POV

I feel so catatonic by Rowan's sudden appearance that I miss the moment when Marcus also arrives beside Raven and my father. The trio looks at me as if I were covered in dung and goose feathers, with disgust and revulsion. The gaze of each of them is like a blade, cutting through any attempt I make to stay strong and upright in the face of their accusations.

"You have had the audacity to come to our wedding, Anastasia. Did you want to see me choose Raven again as my mate and now wife?" Marcus asks with contempt in his voice, and I widen my eyes at him, as if he were saying something absurd. His words are like poison, slowly dripping toward my heart, attempting to corrode any remnant of dignity I might still have.

"I was invited by Raven herself and thought the invitation was a sign of peace," I lie with blatant force. I never expected a sign of peace from her; I only wanted to understand what the prophecy of Zahir means
